Things to do in Belem , Lisbon
In my opinion, one of the best places in Lisbon is Belem, where the glories and explorers from Portugal are in the streets. It’s a monumental and historical part of the capital, people as Henry the navigator, Bartholomeu Dias , Ferdinand Magellan and Vasco da Gama are in the statues of the belem Monument to the Discoveries. Just the head of every single statue it’s like the height of a human , imagine the size !.
Portugal was one of the countries that conquer America, they discover new places for this reason they decided to build this monument for honoring their navigators.
In a short break you’ll see the Belem Tower, or Tower of St Vincent, is a fortified tower Unesco World Heritage, this place was very important to defense the city during their maritime discoveries. I recommend you to see a beautiful sunset from here, you’ll not forget it :). In the way you are going to see the replica of the first aircraft to fly to america, a journey of 28 days!!!
This town is also known because they invented the ”pasteis do belem”. a delicious taste, cinammon and cream, something great to eat and very cheap, just 1,20 €!!!. I recommend you to ask about the Pasteis fabric , the restaurant where they sell the original pasteis.
Finally, the Jeronimos Monastery is one of the most prominent monuments of the Manueline-style architecture as the Belem Tower, UNESCO World Heritage Site, nowadays is a symbol of the Portugal Power during the Age of the discoveries.
